This completely changes the nature of the conflict and the story's themes. Coordinators meanwhile are artificially enhanced human beings and functionally Übermensch. It doesn't work as well however because Newtypes were always something Humanity would naturally evolve into as they continued to expand into space. It tries to update/ retell the classic Gundam story, replacing Newtypes with genetically enhanced Coordinators.

It's not well liked by the hardcore fans - the story isn't as well crafted as some of the others.
